1. Overview
Teleprompter4u ("we", "us", "our") operates the website teleprompter4u.com and provides a live English ↔ Sinhala translation aid. We are based in Australia. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. We have designed the service to collect as little personal data as possible.
2. Zero Retention of Conversation Content
We do not record, store, or retain the content of your conversations. Audio is processed in real time to produce a live translation and is never written to disk on our servers. No transcripts, audio recordings, or conversation logs are kept by us at any point.
Once a session ends, the spoken or typed content that passed through the service is gone. We have no ability to retrieve or reproduce it.
3. What We Do Collect
We collect a limited set of non-conversation data in order to operate, bill, and support the service:
- Account email address — provided at purchase, used to deliver your access pass and send service-related communications.
- Purchase and billing records — transaction identifiers, amount, currency, and timestamps provided by our payment processor. We do not store your full card number or CVV.
- Device activation identifiers — a unique identifier assigned to your host device when a pass is activated, used to enforce the one-pass-per-session licence limit and prevent fraud.
- Usage metadata — session timestamps, session duration, and cumulative minutes used, for billing (pass hour tracking), licensing enforcement, fraud prevention, and customer support.
We do not collect your name, physical address, phone number, or any government identifier unless you voluntarily provide it in a support request.
4. Third-Party Processors
We share data with the following categories of third-party service providers only to the extent necessary to operate the service:
- Payment processing: Payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe processes your card details and provides us with a transaction record. Stripe's privacy practices are governed by Stripe's own Privacy Policy.
- Transactional email: We use a third-party email provider to deliver purchase confirmations and support replies to your email address.
- Real-time translation processing: Live translation is performed by third-party real-time processing providers. Audio or text is transmitted to these providers during an active session solely for the purpose of producing the translation displayed on screen. As stated in Section 2, this content is not stored by us or, to our knowledge under our service agreements, by those providers beyond the immediate processing of each utterance.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
The reading screen application stores two items in your browser's local storage only:
- A session pairing code — a short-lived token used to link the reading screen to the host. It expires when the session ends.
- A font preference — your selected display font, saved locally for convenience.
Our marketing website may use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate visitor behaviour (e.g. page views, referral source). No cross-site tracking cookies are set for advertising purposes.
6. Data Retention
We retain account and billing metadata for up to 12 months from your last purchase, or longer if required by applicable Australian tax or legal obligations. Device activation identifiers are retained for the same period for fraud-prevention purposes. After the retention period, data is deleted or anonymised.
7. Your Rights
You may contact us at any time to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data (subject to our legal obligations to retain certain records).
Send requests to support@teleprompter4u.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
8. Consent Notice — Your Responsibility to Inform Others
Important: When you use Teleprompter4u, you are running an automated translation aid that processes the speech or text of everyone taking part in the conversation — not just you. In many jurisdictions (including various Australian states and territories) it may be required, or simply good practice, to inform all participants that an automated tool is being used and to obtain their agreement before proceeding.
You are solely responsible for informing the other person (or people) in your conversation and obtaining their consent where required by law.
You can adapt the following suggested disclosure to read aloud at the start of a session:
"I'm using an automated tool that shows a live Sinhala/English translation of our conversation on a second screen to help us understand each other. It is not recorded. Is that okay with you?"
We recommend keeping a record of the consent given (e.g. a note of the date, the parties present, and the response). If the other party does not consent, please do not proceed with using the service for that conversation.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect the data we hold, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit and access controls limiting who can reach stored records. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@teleprompter4u.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. For material changes we will make reasonable efforts to notify active pass holders by email. Continued use of the service after a change is posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
